The Team and the Trade Experience Behind Every Heritage Millworks Project
Heritage Millworks is a custom millwork manufacturer and installation team based in Troutman, NC. The same people you meet in the design phase are the people who build and install your project, without exception.
Where Heritage Millworks Comes From
Heritage Millworks was built around a straightforward idea: the Carolinas needed a regional manufacturer capable of designing and fabricating custom wine rooms, saunas, and architectural millwork in-house, with the communication and accountability that direct manufacturing relationships make possible.
Mark, who founded Heritage Millworks, brought more than 35 years of construction experience to that idea, including eight years of focused work in wine room and sauna installation across the region. The team he built shares that depth. The craftsmen who work here came up through the construction and woodworking trades and had been fabricating and installing at this level long before Heritage Millworks became its own operation.
The company is based in Troutman, NC, in the Charlotte region. Our fabrication facility is where every component of every project is designed, cut, finished, and prepared for installation. The work happens here, by the people you hired.
The People You Meet Are the People Who Build It
From the first design consultation through the final installation walkthrough, clients work with the same team. There are no handoffs to a separate installation crew and no point at which a different group of people takes over the work.
The project lead, assistant lead, and engineer are involved in the design phase so that everyone who will build your project understands it before fabrication begins. Questions that arise during installation are answered by people who designed the component in question, not by someone reading a specification sheet for the first time.
For homeowners, that continuity makes the process straightforward to navigate. For architects, designers, and contractors managing a larger scope, it means one team and one point of accountability throughout.
The Equipment and Methods That Define Our Work
Heritage Millworks uses production-grade tools and a defined fabrication process on every project, whether it is a single wine rack system or a full architectural millwork package.
CNC Fabrication
CNC stands for computer numerical control — fabrication machinery that uses precise digital instructions to cut, shape, and mill wood components to exact dimensions. Parts produced on CNC equipment are consistent and accurate to specification regardless of complexity. We use the same class of equipment that commercial fabricators rely on for production-scale work, which gives our clients the precision of large-format manufacturing with the direct communication of a small, owner-operated shop.
Design-to-Manufacturing Software
Before we cut a single piece, your project is fully modeled in 3D using software that translates the approved design directly into the instructions that drive our fabrication equipment. You review and approve that 3D rendering before production begins. It is not a sketch or an approximation — it is the exact model from which every component will be produced. What you approve is what gets built.
Dowel-Pin Cabinetry Construction
Dowel-pin construction is a joinery method in which cabinet parts are connected using precisely placed cylindrical wood pegs, called dowels, rather than staples, screws, or bracket hardware. When the holes are CNC-drilled to exact placement, the result is a joint that is tighter and more stable than fastener-based assembly, and it eliminates the hardware failure points that can develop in cabinetry over time. Every cabinet component we produce uses this method.
Small-Batch Finishing for Color Consistency
Finishing — the application of stain, paint, or protective topcoat to wood surfaces — is sensitive to batch conditions. Even minor differences in application timing or environmental factors can produce visible variation between components. Heritage Millworks finishes all components for a given project in a single small-batch run, under consistent conditions, so that every piece matches when it reaches the installation site. For wine rooms with multiple rack sections or cabinet sets with many doors and drawer fronts, that consistency is what makes the finished room look like a unified design rather than an assembled collection of parts.
Our Partner Network in the Carolinas
Heritage Millworks works within a network of regional specialists on projects that call for coordinated expertise. Climate Consultants handles wine cellar cooling system design and configuration. Carolina Saunas supplies sauna-specific components and materials. Wine Cellars of the Carolinas is a regional collaborator on select wine room projects. Vintage View provides contemporary wine rack and display hardware systems used in modern wine room designs.
These partnerships extend what our team can deliver on complex projects while keeping a single point of contact and accountability for the client.

Common Questions About Heritage Millworks
Who owns Heritage Millworks?
Heritage Millworks was founded by Mark, a craftsman and project lead with 35+ years of construction experience, including eight years of wine room and sauna installation in the Carolinas. Mark leads the team and is directly involved in projects from design through installation.
How long has Heritage Millworks been in business?
The experience that drives Heritage Millworks predates the company name by years. Mark's background spans 35+ years in the construction trades, including eight years of specialized wine room and sauna installation work in the Carolinas. The team that works here brings that same depth to every project.
What makes Heritage Millworks different from other custom woodworking companies in North Carolina?
Three things, taken together: in-house design, fabrication, and installation handled by the same team; CNC equipment and design-to-manufacturing software that ensures what a client approves is exactly what gets built; and small-batch finishing that delivers color consistency across every component of a project. Heritage Millworks was built to do all three under one roof, in one facility, in North Carolina.
Do you work with architects and interior designers, or only with homeowners?
Both, and with general contractors and cabinet shops as well. Architects and designers typically engage Heritage Millworks as a fabrication and installation partner for wine room, sauna, and millwork components within a larger project. Our trade services page covers how those partnerships work in practice.
